Angoon King Salmon Derby Rules

 

Age Limits, Tickets, License and other Requirements

 

  1. Derby is open to both Alaskan resident and non-Alaskan residents ages 16 and up.
  2. Participants must possess a valid Alaska sport fishing license with king salmon stamp, or valid subsistence license. License must be presented before ticket is issued.
  3. An entry ticket must be obtained from Admiralty Research and Development, Inc. (ARD) and a rule sheet signed before fish can be entered.

 

Participation and Duration

 

  1. Participation occurs when an entry ticket is obtained and a rule sheet signed.
  2. The derby shall commence Saturday (current derby date) at 12 am, and will end Saturday (current derby date) at 3:00 pm.
  3. Fish may be entered and weighed during the dates set forth above, and during the following times:

 

Monday through Friday          4:00 – 5:00 pm

Saturday                                  3 – 4 pm

Sunday                                    No weighing, so ice your fish for   Monday          

    

  1. Participants may fish from a boat or from shore.
  2. No person who is not a participant may fish from a boat from which participants are fishing.
    • If a non-participant fishes from a boat from which participants are fishing, all persons in the boat are disqualified.
    • Non-participants may go along with participants for the enjoyment of the outing.
    • Down riggers are permitted.
    • Commercial Power and Hand trolling equipment is not allowed.
  3. Anyone caught breaking the rules, or disqualified for any reason, as decided upon by the organizing body of Angoon’s Annual King Salmon Derby, (ARD), will be ineligible to participate in any future spring king fling.
  4. Fishing regulations established by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game must apply to eligibly caught fish in this derby.

 

Eligible Fish

 

  1. The participant’s entry ticket must be presented with the fish the participant seeks to enter.
    • Only fresh, unfrozen king salmon may be entered.
    • Only gutted and gilled fish may be entered.
    • The weight of the fish, and the date and time of entry, will be entered on the signed rule sheet submitted to Angoon Trading upon registration and ticket dispensation.  Ticket must be presented whenever a fish is entered. Ticket number will be recorded on the rule sheet. Rule sheet, with fish weights, will be kept on file at Angoon Trading.
    • Entered fish will remain the property of participant.
  2. Prizes will be awarded based solely on the weight of the entered fish.

·         More than one fish may be entered in the derby, but only the largest king will considered in the competition.

  1. All fish entered must be taken in a manner, location, and time permitted by applicable sport fishing regulations. Note: Rules and regulation of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game apply.

·         Anyone who has a reasonable suspicion that the fish submitted for entry was not taken in a manner which complies with the applicable law or derby rules, may notify Angoon King Derby officials (ARD) in writing and the matter will be looked into.  If it is found that the submitted fish was taken illegally, the fish will be disqualified and the participant(s) will be ineligible from any future derbies sponsored by ARD.

 

Area Limits


Southern Limit: Southern edge of False Island to Chaik Bay

 

Western Limit: Two miles into Peril Strait

 

Northern Limit: BS Cove and the Southern Edge of Tenakee Inlet

 

Eastern Limit: All waters inside Kootznoowoo Inlet
